Das Wat wurde im 14 Jahrhundert zum Inbegriff desBuddhismus. Die Verehrung gilt dem um 1300 gegossenen goldenen Buddha Phra Buddha Chinaraj, der im Wat Mahathat aufbewahrt wird und als schönste Buddha-Figur Thailand gilt. Phra Phuttha Chinarat the 14th century Buddha image in Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Temple in Phitsanulok. Is said to be the most beautiful Buddha image in Thailand and the 2nd most revered in the country. The second only is the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. (see also my Bangkok site) |
